JACK-IN-THE-PULPIT
(arisaema triphyllum)

GROWING
JACK-IN-THE-PULPIT
Jack-in-the-Pulpit grows in shaded areas in a rich humus soil. It is an interesting plant and it's "pulpit" (spathe) makes it look similar to a Pitcher Plant. This spathe varies in color from plant to plant. The root should be planted about one inch underground and mulched lightly.
Medicinally, the dried, aged root was used by the American Indians for coughs and colds but, all parts of this plant contain calcium oxalate crystals. Calcium oxalate is VERY irritating.
